Data Security Policy for Electronic Communication

It is e-CBD's policy that sensitive and private information (such as credit card details or other personally identifying and financial information) should not be sent via normal e-mail and electronic communication methods. E-mail is an insecure medium and is able to be intercepted at both ISP or server level and at home or network level by those with the skills and ill-intent to do so.
 
E-mail programs used for sending and receiving electronic messages are also under constant attack from worms, viruses and other intrusions. These types of attacks can be used to mine the data stored both within a computer's documents and from the e-mails stored on a computer. Common worms may also send e-mails to contacts in your address book and attach files from your documents randomly  including those containing sensitive or private information.
 
If it is necessary to send private or sensitive information via e-mail or other non-secure electronic means, e-CBD recommends the use of encryption tools to safeguard against security intrusions or failures. Encryption programs such as PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) are a well-accepted method of transmitting sensitive data securely and may be appropriate for transmitting sensitive or personal information. PGP can be downloaded from the Internet and may suit companies wanting mid-level security that could be defended in a court action.
 
To protect our clients and guard against common types of attack e-CBD uses software which has a network firewall and continually updated viral definition module. We also use a hardware firewall to connect to the Internet and a combination of hardware and software firewalls on each of our individual computers.
