Shorts on the Green Short Film Festival
Surfers Paradise Alliance, the governing body for the Surfers Paradise Precinct, has announced the return of the Shorts on the Green Short Film Competition, following a very successful start in its inaugural year.
The Shorts on the Green Short Film Competition is now open to all filmmakers, professional and amateur, and entry is free.
The competition will culminate in the Shorts on the Green Short Film Festival to be held in Surfers Paradise on June 13th 2010. The competition has been developed by Surfers Paradise Alliance, together with the support of local filmmakers.
Filmmakers could be in the running for a number of great prizes, including a 50” Plasma TV, valued at $2000. All finalists will also have their work shown in front of a huge crowd on a massive screen in Surfers Paradise.
In its inaugural year, “Shorts on the Green” was a huge success, attracting over 700 film fans who came down to watch the competition on the Big Screen at the Circle on Cavill Precinct. The finalist films were judged live on the night and the quality of work shown was outstanding.
In 2010, “Shorts on the Green” forms part of the Surfers Paradise Festival, a two-month celebration of Music, Film, Food, Fashion and Art held in the heart of the Gold Coast.
Shorts on the Green Festival Director Rob Barbuto said he was so glad that Shorts was able to make a return this year.
“South East Queensland is a creative nurseryland, particularly within the film genre. We are keen to give filmmakers of all experience levels, an outlet for their creativity, and with the return of Shorts on the Green we are able to do just that,” he said.
Barbuto said all entries are open to all filmmakers, young and old; amateur and professional.
“We want to be able to reach as many filmmakers as possible. There are so many great short films out there and we encourage filmmakers to send them in”
Films must be under 8 minutes and filmmakers have until May to get their shorts in. Shorts on the Green will play to the general public, so all films must be suitable for public viewing – and must fall within a PG or a soft M rating.
Whilst it would be great if “Shorts on the Green” was the film’s premiere, it doesn’t have to be. Entries can have screened and won awards at other festivals. As long as the film was completed after July 1st 2008 and falls within the festival requirements, it will be eligible for competition.
Entries close on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010. Entries will be accepted on Mini DV, DVCAM or DVD. Visit www.shortsonthegreen.com for more info on the competition and prizes.
