SHORTS Film Festival Adelaide
Shorts is a national short film festival and competition, attracting filmmakers from across Australia to compete for it’s lucrative prize pool, including the coveted first prize trip to Cannes Film Festival.
Film making in 2009 is challenged by the increasing array of technologies and mediums available. Core to the development of the next generation of quality film makers is the capacity to capture, hold and retain the attention of their audiences regardless of the medium.
Shorts Film Festival stands alone as Australia’s only national short film festival and competition entirely dedicated to ensuring that the specialist craft of storytelling through film is fostered.
Established in 2002 the Directors’ founding vision was three-fold:
- to host a national festival that showcased quality short films in unique non-cinematic venues.
- to celebrate, within the community, the art of storytelling through film and to engage and generate new audiences.
- to champion and reward quality cinematic storytelling through the provision of valuable industry prizes and opportunities.
Shorts brings Australian films back into the community, presenting a diverse program of outstanding short format work in unique non-cinematic venues. These venues allow the perfect social base for film screenings, increased industry networking and interaction with audiences. Renowned for its high-end production values, made possible by the support of over of 40 national and state companies as well as key government bodies, the generosity of these sponsors has also enabled Shorts to reward its winning filmmakers from a prize pool with a value in excess of $50,000 with 1st Prize being a trip to Cannes and registration at the Cannes Film Festival.
Shorts Film Festival continues to realise significant milestones in 2008 through an expanded partnership with the prestigious Rushes Soho Shorts Festival in the UK, providing leveraged exposure for the best of its filmmakers to have their works showcased in London, in front of an international audience including major commercial players in the film and advertising industries. Selected Shorts films will be screened at Rushes for the first time this July from 27th-31st.
Shorts provides a unique opportunity for filmmakers to have their work showcased across 3 festivals – Shorts Film Festival, Shorts Outback and Rushes Soho Shorts Festival.
“A single entry to Shorts could get your film shown in Adelaide, Parachilna (Flinders Ranges) and London and take you to Cannes, to experience the biggest film festival in the world.” said Shorts Director and acclaimed Australian film producer David Lightfoot.
