My Queer Career
The competition’s 16 year history has seen some particularly notable industry leaders on the judging panel, including Adam Elliot, Tony Ayres (who have both previously won the competition) Margaret Pomeranz and Ana Kokkinos; while the competition itself proves a launching pad for some stellar Aussie directors, including Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde), Tim Slade (Four) and Dan Castle (last year’s Newcastle).
My Queer Career finalists also vie for a number of secondary awards including Queer Perspective, Emerging Talent, and Audience Favourite, offering a prize pool worth over $40,000 in in-kind equipment, stock and
studio time. The films screen alongside the awards presentation before an audience of 1,000 people at the gala opening night of the 2010 Mardi Gras Film Festival.
The competition is open to Australian films under 30 minutes in length and entries close 5pm, Friday 6th November. More information and entry forms can be found at www.queerscreen.com.au
This year offers even greater incentive to enter My Queer Career, as finalists will be invited to submit their next project to a new queer script development lab produced by Queer Screen in early 2010. This rare
opportunity will provide filmmakers with queer creative mentors to help them get the very best out of their next film.
