Byron Bay Film Festival

The Byron Bay Film Festival started as a fundraising initiative for the Byron Community and Cultural Centre by our Executive Producer Greg Aitken and local filmmakers. The festival still works closely with the BCCC to ensure the on-going growth of our community event.

The Byron Bay and Northern NSW region is home to many filmmakers and so when the inaugural Byron Bay Film Festival was held in February 2006 we focused solely on Australian films and the back catalogue of our local filmmakers. Byron Bay is a magnet for people from all around the globe and so it seemed fitting that BBFF should metamorphosis into an International Film Festival in its second year.

In 2007 our festival featured over 100 films from 24 different countries, including 46 Australian premieres and 15 world premieres. Byron Bay’s international reputation encouraged filmmakers from China, Sri Lanka, the USA & the UK to attend the festival.

In 2008 we expanded to host 30 sessions screening 150 films from 34 countries over 100 of which were World or Australian premieres.

BBFF is located in one of Australia's most desirable locations - a town known world-wide for creativity, style and green-living.

Early bird deadline is May 29 2009
