Show Me Shorts Film Festival Trust

Press Release Dated: 13 September 2006

$5000 prize offered for Best Short Film

Show Me Shorts has scored an exciting sponsorship deal from premium liquor brand Jameson Irish Whiskey.
This strategic partnership means the winner of the Jameson Best Film category will receive the very useful prize of $5,000 cash.

Jameson Irish Whiskey will also sponsor the opening night, hosting a celebration to launch the festival. Owned and marketed by Pernod Ricard, Jameson Irish Whiskey is a premium range of Irish whiskeys with a 220 year heritage and strong links to the film industry world wide.

To have landed such a great deal in only our first year is a huge coup. Jameson has sponsored short film festivals and short film awards in different parts of the globe for several years, including the prestigious film festival Cannes and Tribecca in New York, and works with a number of screen stars, says Business Director Tamara Liebman.

This partnership will allow us to provide a higher level of entertainment, excitement and a more enjoyable experience at the festival right from the beginning. It is gratifying that Jameson Irish Whiskey supports our vision for Show Me Shorts and wants to be part of delivering that to the public. This serves to reinforce our belief that there is a strong audience already looking forward to the Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival.

Grant Lahood, who has had two short films screen at Cannes says, "Awards are a great recognition of excellence and encourage film makers to strive for high production values and inventive story telling. And when it comes to prizes, cash is king - I'm sure the winner will find $5,000 cash very useful for their next project."

Programming Director Katrin Hagen is currently inundated with processing and viewing around 350 entries for the festival. The team is in celebration mode already, having received almost twice as many short films as anticipated.

It is another good indicator of the diversity and high level of quality the Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival will be able to provide, says Hagen.

Hagen does let slip that the balance of entries which was heavily in favour of Australia has now tipped more evenly, so the fight for top honors will be a battle worth seeing!

Other prizes confirmed so far include $1,500 in film processing from Atlab New Zealand, and two nights accommodation in any Scenic Circle Hotel. The award categories include Jameson Best Film, Best Student Film, Best Technical Contribution, and a Special Jury Prize.

The Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival is New Zealand's only trans-Tasman short film festival. The event will take place over three nights and two days from 24-26 November 2006 at Auckland's Academy Cinemas.

Thanks to our sponsors and partners Jameson Irish Whiskey, DVDesign, Academy Cinemas, Alliott Thompson Francis Ltd Chartered Accountants, Star Publicity, the St Kilda Film Festival, Atlab New Zealand, Scenic Circle Hotels and Creative Communities.

CALL FOR ENTRIES
Dated: 1 May 2006

Calling Aussies with Sharp Shorts to Shoot Out Trans-Tasman Competition

SHOW ME SHORTS is a new film festival dedicated to showcasing your films along side those of our New Zealand friends, providing a chance for some healthy competition.

So, if you have a creative masterpiece lying around gathering dust, or are busy shooting and editing your latest gem, we want you!
In its inaugural year SHOW ME SHORTS will screen at Auckland's prestige film festival venue, the Academy Cinemas, from 24 27 November. Organisers hope to expand to other cities in 2007.
Australia and the rest of the world have a tonne of short film festivals, but until now but until now the Kiwis were missing out on viewing our fine work. So, welcome to an event that recognizes the lack of avenues for you to display your work to the public, and the public's desire to see said work.
SHOW ME SHORTS is the brain child of entrepreneurs and festival addicts Katrin Hagen, Gina Dellabarca, Tamara Liebman, and Kate Nicholson. You can ogle our sizzling web site and get all the dish on how to enter at www.showmeshorts.co.nz
Entries must be between three and thirty minutes long, and have been completed after 31 December 2002. Full guidelines are available at the website, you can submit your forms online, and it's free to enter!
Festival Programming Director Katrin Hagen says, We are expecting a large crop of entries, both from here and Australia, which should make for a diverse and high quality selection. We will choose around 50 to play over the course of three nights and two days, with winners being announced closing night for Best Film, Best Student Film, Best Technical Contribution and a Special Jury Prize. It's all the more exciting as we get to pit the best Kiwi films against the Aussies and find out how they compare.
People want to see some of the great films that our emerging talents are making. Short films are fun, and there's a real art to telling a story on screen in a short time frame. When a Kiwi film was nominated for an Academy Award we knew it was high time people had the opportunity to see the best films on offer here and across the Tasman.
SHOW ME SHORTS opening night will showcase world and/or New Zealand premieres, followed by eight more sessions over two days, each with its own category, i.e. comedy, drama, animation. For those who prefer variety, there'll be two 'mixed bag' sessions featuring a collection of genres. The festival will finish with a spectacular closing night including the finalist films and the announcement of the winners.
Announcements of the selection panel and judges will be made next month.
Thanks to sponsors DVDesign, Alliott Thompson Francis Ltd chartered accountants and the Academy Cinemas for coming on board at this early stage, and to our new partner and sister festival in Melbourne, the St Kilda Film Festival, who have agreed to play the winning film from our festival in their event next year.

SHOW ME SHORTS Film Festival will screen from 24 25 November 2006 at the Academy Cinema in Auckland, New Zealand.
