Bin News

What a way to kick start the week of festivities, The largest and most successful In The Bin to date. Over 3,500 people, (probably a lot more) crammed into the two-park venue to be entertained by some of Australias best short films for 2004. The gates opened at 3pm and we had to close the gates after the intermission as a steady crowd kept flooding in and we had nowhere to put them. If you were after Bin Merchandise we do apologise as all our stuff had sold out by the end of the festival. A big thankyou must go our to our fine musicians James Grehan and the band, and Jackson, who kept the masses well entertained into the night.

But to the audience that made In The Bin the success it was a huge thankyou, the park was left the cleanest it has ever been. And just the amazing atmosphere that was created by the audience, it helped make the festival a most enjoyable night.

Next up? Frame Breaks 6pm tonight (Monday) same location, smaller venue, films from across Australia by film makers under the age of 25. All proceeds go towards TAC-Q Teenage Adventure Camps, supporting physically and mentally disabled teenagers, a great local organization and I hope many of you come out and support them. Festival will close around 9:30pm.

School Shorts 6pm is on Wednesday night and will showcase secondary student films from all corners of Australia. Local films will be vying for cash prizes for Best Short and Audience Choice. So get out there and support your local school.

Closing the week of festivities is the launch of Board Shorts on Friday night. Set to become the second major festival in the In The Bin stables. Board Shorts will be showcasing the best of sports short films from throughout the world. If you saw the preview on Saturday night Im sure you wont want to miss it. Gates open at 5pm with live music by local artist Terrance Schindler.

Tickets for each of the festival are $5 or for the last three $12 and you can still get them from Currumbin Beach Shops, make a day of it if you can and visit the Swell Sculpture Festival which runs throughout the week along Currumbin beach Front.

In The Bin news will be back late next week with a full rap-up, and also the dates of our touring festival throughout New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. We are also looking for expressions of interest from our next QLD tour in May, June 2005.

Big thankyou to all our sponsors, and if you on the Coast I hope to see you at one of In The Bins other festival this week.
