North America's northernmost independent film festival is getting ready for it's fourth year of bringing hungry movie-goers in from the cold and dark to bask in the illumination of hot films from around the globe.

Anchorage is a city of 270,000 inhabitants crouching on the edge of the howling Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by mountains and edged by a frigid and restless sea. It's far away from Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto, and people up here are proud of the fact they do things a little differently from the rest of the world. Independence has always been regarded as an asset, and that spirit is what fueled the creation of this festival.

The Anchorage International Film Festival is going into its 4th year, and in our call for entries the founders would like invite you to participate in a festival that is unlike any other. The enthusiasm, sophistication and passion of our audiences will surprise you, the integrity of our judging process is second to none, yet, it is still possible for your film to stand out as, admittedly, we are not overwhelmed by the quantity of entries that must besiege the larger festivals. Besides, During our long, dark winter we find it invigorating to immerse ourselves in the selection process and gorge ourselves on the vibrant visions of filmmakers is actually a guilty pleasure for us. We urge you to submit your films or videos and join the other independent filmmakers who have been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm for all things independent that embodies our so-called sleepy little city by the sea. We are very humble and somewhat informal, yet, true to our Alaskan spirit, we are very dedicated and enthusiastic in the way we go about our endeavors.

In the past we have been covered by media such as the Sundance Channel, Premiere Magazine, and Canal Plus. Each year we invite several well established film professionals including directors from other major film festivals. Our attendance is expected to surpass the 4000 mark this year, which is very phenomenal for a 3-year-old event in a city the size of Anchorage. We invite you to join the many other filmmakers and journalists who are lured by the mystique of Alaskaplus, you just might win a coveted Golden Oosik or be awarded one of the cash prizes given away to the top films.

As a bonus, the founders of the AIFF are excited to announce that this year's event will be concluded with screenings at the prestigious Edward Albee Theater Conference in Valdez, Alaska. It's a great conference! At least 600 national and international stars, playwrights, directors and other talented people attend.
